Support Luke and Noah - Luke and Noah - As the World Turns

As much as we love their story, there are some people out there who dislike it--and they're not afraid to let CBS and Procter and Gamble (the company that owns the show) know it! If we want to keep this story going, we have to be willing to work for it. (New to the story and wondering why Luke and Noah are a big deal? Click here for more information.)

One easy way to support the story is to sign an online petition asking the producers of As the World Turns to treat the couple fairly.

But signing an online petition is easy, and the show's producers know that. Whenever anyone involved with the show is asked how the audience can make a difference, they say, "Write to Procter and Gamble."

So, here's the address:
Brian T. Cahill
Televest/Procter & Gamble Productions
World Wide Plaza
825 8th Avenue
New York, NY 10019

Start writing!

And if you're not sure where to start, here are some tips for your letter:

DO:
  • Keep your letter as positive as possible.
  • Make sure someone who reads only the first sentence of your letter will know that you SUPPORT Luke and Noah. You don't want your letter to be thrown on the "Anti-Nuke" pile by someone who only sees that your letter is about the couple and you're unhappy. Feel free to put the word "support" in bold to ensure that someone skimming your letter gets the message.
  • Check the grammar and spelling of your letter before you send it. If you want someone else to take a look, PM rmn21879 or, better yet, e-mail him your letter. He'll be happy to give it a quick look.
  • Mention the P&G products that you buy on a regular basis. (You can find a good list here.) And if you've started buying more of their products to show your appreciation for the Luke and Noah story, say that, too!
  • Mention how long you've been watching ATWT. If you started watching because of Luke and Noah, say so. If you've been watching for years and you love Luke and Noah, say so. If you used to watch ATWT, stopped, and returned because you heard about Luke and Noah, say so! If it's true, explain that seeing Luke and Noah on ATWT has made you feel more loyal to P&G.
  • Mention the positive press Luke and Noah have received, especially if it's what got you started watching the show.
  • Mention if you've told others to watch ATWT as a result of Luke and Noah.
  • Mention if you donated money to Project Holiday Spirit--this shows your financial dedication to the story.
  • Praise what's praiseworthy: the love story, the inclusion of Luke and Noah on the show, any signs of affection we do see onscreen. Say that you want to see more of that in the future!
  • Explain what you want and why! If you think Luke and Noah never kissing makes the story less believable, say so! If you just want to see Luke and Noah on the air more often, say that!
  • Keep your letter as short and sweet as you can. The odds that someone will read an entire five-page letter are slim. A half-page letter, though, may be read from start to finish.

DON'T:

  • Trash the show. Your letter will be ignored.
  • Use fan-created terms like "Nuke." You won't be taken seriously.
  • Threaten to stop buying P&G products. Saying that you already buy them, combined with the fact that you're writing to ask for more Luke and Noah, sends a message without being negative.
  • Say you ONLY watch Luke and Noah, or that you just watch clips of them on YouTube. (You can say you're more excited to tune in to ATWT when you know Luke and Noah will be on, though.)
  • Mention spoilers for the future. Stick to what's already aired.
  • Assume you can send an e-mail, or sign an online petition, and you'll have done your part. Those things are good, but letters--real letters, mailed in an envelope--are worth their weight in gold!
  • Stop writing after your first letter. When an episode with Luke and Noah airs and you love it, write again and say so! There's no such thing as too much praise.

There are, of course, other ways to support Luke and Noah. You can:
  • Sign a petition asking for more and better screen time for Luke and Noah.
  • Call the comment lines set up by CBS and the show. Remember, the people who staff these lines are not responsible for what happens on the show, so be kind! Call between 9 and 5 EST to talk to a real person.
    • 718-780-6400* (JC Studios--ask for the comment line)
    • 212-975-3247 (CBS)
    • 718-780-7675 (ATWT)
  • Use the CBS online feedback form to comment on the storyline.
  • Vote for Luke and Noah in various readers polls, including Soaps in Depth and Soap Opera Digest.

Done all that and want to do more? Visit "More Ways to Support Luke and Noah" for ideas.

But again, the very best thing you can do is write a letter to P&G, slap a stamp on it, and mail it in. Old-fashioned? Yes! But if it can keep daytime's first gay romance alive, isn't it worth it?

If you feel shortchanged by the way today's episode ended--panning to mistletoe instead of showing Luke and Noah kissing--now is the time to write to P&G and express yourself! My letter will be in the mail in the morning...

Yours should too!

Just to let you know, the petition was not and is not meant to replace anything that you suggested here, it was always meant as an addition to the other things. :-)
